Tuilleries

Tuilleries
The explosive magenta and fuchsia of the blossoming tulips in the Tuilleries Gardens make my eyes burn.

It is quite amazing to start your day this way, running in a beautiful park in the center of an old city, absorbing the vibrant, fresh energies from baby flowers and trees.

I also witnessed the formation of a new family... well, of sorts. One day there was a family of ducks, mommy duck and her ten little ducklings swimming in a line in one of the fountains. About two days later, I saw the same family, this time only 6 ducklings, fighting for the morning bread crumbs with the park's resident pigeons.

So what happened to the other 4 ducklings?

I thought perhaps they were at the crèche.

The Quais

The Quais
An early Spring this year called for early "sorties". When it's beautiful and warm out, we grab our munchies and head over to the quais...

You can feel really, and I mean really, lonely in a beautiful city such as this. Paris can be a hauntingly lonesome place for us the singles. I like to compare this place to Noah's Ark - everyone is paired up! Between the families, the lovers (illicit or not), the young couples, the honeymooners, we singles wander off the deep trenches of solitude. Perhaps a book can keep you company. Or your art. Or your sincere desire to mark a place in time. In the river of lost dreams.

Alexander III at Night...

Alexander III at Night...
I'm currently preparing for the 150th anniversary play of the American Church in Paris. One beautiful Thursday evening, I walked home after rehearsal and caught this moment... It is one of the best gifts in life, there in the tranquil, star-sparkling night, the sapphire-blue sky...

Pont Alexandre III

Pont Alexandre III
On Sundays I go to the American Church in Paris. I've found this new spiritual home since the end of September 2006. I've since met a bunch of wonderful people, sharing different nationalities and accents and lifestyles, staying for 1 week or 3 months or indefinitely, but sharing one language and one faith.

Service ends around 1pm, then I'd walk home, from the quai d'orsay, crossing the Pont Alexandre III (under which lies a cool new Parisian night life venue called "Showcase", it's really worth checking out if you're ever in town!), going all along the quais of the Seine, passing by the peniches-homes of many...

I long to live on a peniche, fall asleep under the clear night sky, surrounded by the fine silhouettes of bridges, muse to the soft murmurs of the waves, and listen to the sweet lullaby composed by the winds.

Would you accompany me and drift off to the oceans on a little peniche?
